Kay McDonagh is a painter and printmaker living in Sidmouth. …
Some of the highlights, of my Art Foundation course at The Cambridge School of Art, were the visits to the printing department run by Walter Hoyle.
Located ten minutes away from the rest of the campus, in a draughty old church hall, I made lithographs of Cambridge landmarks: such as long lost public houses. I continued lithography at St Martin’s School of Art, where my subject was the canal at Camden. More recently I’ve returned to print making: etching at Mary Gillet’s Dartmoor workshops and relief printing at my own Mid Devon studio.
I have shown at Exeter’s Gloss Gallery, the Northcott Theatre, the Southwest Academy, Devon Open Studios, A Celebration of Art at The Maynard School, the Limekiln Gallery in Calstock and the Big Colyton Art Show.
Beyond printmaking I run Honeycomb Animation with Sara Bor, where we have devised and produced over twenty children’s animation series for TV. I have recently completed an MA in Professional Writing at Falmouth University. I am writing and illustrating a children’s book and I’m an occasional visiting lecturer at Central Saint Martins.
